St. Jerome was born to a rich, pagan family in 347 at Strido, Dalmatia. He studied in Rome, Italy and became a lawyer. He was baptized after converting to Christianity. He became a monk, then lived for years in the Syrian deserts in order to have isolation for his study of Scripture. While in the desert, St. Jerome came across a lion who had a thorn in its paw. After pulling it out, the lion became loyal to St. Jerome and stayed by his side for many years. He was a priest and a student of Saint Gregory of Nazianzen. Saint Jerome was the secretary to Pope Damasus I. Pope Damasus ordered Jerome to review and correct the Latin text of the bible. It took thirty years for St. Jerome to make the Vulgate translation of the bible, which is still in use today. He taught St. Paula, St. Marcella, and St. Eustochium. But, due to much gossip, Jerome left Rome and returned to solitude in the desert. He lived his last 34 years in the desert, where he wrote and translated many works of literature. He is the patron saint of translators, librarians, and students. St. Jerome’s feast day is on September 30th. St. Jerome’s follower, Eusebius, was instructed to take the saint’s cloak and lay it upon three dead men. When he did this, the three men were revived and praised God. The archbishop of Nazareth was accused of preaching a false doctrine by a man named Sabinianus. The archbishop produced a book, which was written by St. Jerome, that supported his argument. Sabinianus claimed that it was forged and ordered the archbishop to be executed. Right before the blade struck, St. Jerome appeared and stopped the sword. Sabinianus fell to the ground and died, mysteriously, with his head severed.

In the Pacific Ocean lies a big patch of trash that just sits around and harms the enviornment. It is called the great garbage patch and is a huge problem. The garbage patch is the size of Texas. That is huge. Seriously. There is so much trash in the ocean that it has been piled up by ocean currents. It is very sad that this is occurring today. It not only hurts the fish and animals but it hurts us too. When the fish eat the trash, we eat the fish and indirectly eat the trash. This happens to all the other fish in the ocean too. It is really sad because we rely on the ocean and the ocean relies on us to help keep it clean. This big garbage patch is ruining everything. It is so dense with trash that a human being can walk on it. This affects the enviornment greatly with destruction to the ocean and harming all creatures that result to the ocean for foods. That includes, fish, birds, sharks, dolphins, and just about every sea creature you can think off, besides those weird things in the deep sea. Scientists confirm that the garbage patch will double the size in the next few years and triple its size in the next twenty years. This is all because of the terrible habits of human beings. Thats right, it is our fault that this giant abbomination exists. We throw away tons and tons of trash each year which is sent to landfills. The trash in the landfills fly away due to heavy winds and land in the ocean. The ocean currents move the trash to the middle of the pacific ocean which collects and makes the great garbage patch.
http://nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/great-pacific-garbage-patch/ The Old Man and the Sea is a novella written by Ernest Hemmingway. This book was very popular in world war two. The story depicts an old man who os very poor because he has not caught a fish in a very long time. He has a young boy as a friend who used to fish with him. After his fater demanded otherwise he was no longer able to fish with the old man. So the old man fished alone and hasn't caught a fish in eighty four days. He goes out to sea on his little boat where he hopes to catch a large fish so he can have money and food. He sees the Portuguese man of war which is extremely deadly. The old man refers to the ocean as a woman and never disrespects her. The old man only speaks when it is neccesary when he goes fishing because it is a good virtue according to him. He catches some sardines and uses them as bait. He also catches some flying fish which happen to be swimming next to his skiff. The bait is eaten by a large marlin, which the old man predicts. The marlin drags the small boat away from the mainland. While all of this is going on the old man tells the readers stories of him and the young boy. He tells the story of when him and the boy caught a marlin, whose lover stayed with it until they clubbed it to death. While waiting for the marlin to jump out of the water, the old man catches a dolphin. The old man eats some of the dolphin because he is very hungry. The old man complains how bland and terrible the dolphin tastes when it is raw and has now salts or spices. The marlin finally jumps and shows how big he truly is. The old man is shocked. He has never seen a fish as big as he was. The old man spears him directly in the heart and ties him up in ropes. The old man throws the marlin overboard with a rope attached tothe boat and marlin. The old man was dragging him back to Havannah. Sharks picked up the smell of the blood, coming from th marlin. He realized this, so the old man tied a dagger to the end of his oar. He stabs and kills any shark that comes close to his marlin. Unfortunately some sharks eat half of the marlin.
