![]() http://www.weebly.com/editor/main.php This week in English Language Arts class, we read a short story called Harrison Bergeron. This short story was written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. This story was very entertaining unlike some books I have read. It had romance, action, humor, but most importantly, DEATH. Mt classmates did not like the ending, but I loved it. The year was 2081, sixty-five years into the future. Everyone was supposed to be equal, except for the General and the H-P men. Mr. and Mrs. Bergeron are watching television when a news report comes on telling people to be cautious of Harrison Bergeron who wants to overthrow the government. Just then, Harrison bursts through the door while the couple is watching. He claims himself the Emperor and wants to have an Empress. A ballerina stand up bravely and is claimed by Harrison. He then starts ripping the handicaps and weights off of everybody and takes his mates hand. They start to dance and jump while the musicians play. They jump so high that they touch the ceiling and kiss it. Then they kiss each other. The General comes in with a large shotgun and fires twice at them. They die before they hit the floor. Harrison's mother is listening but is too stupid to remember what happened. It ends with a funny tone but also has sad happy and shocking tones. I enjoyed the story and thought that it was interesting to have an ending where the main character dies.
