During the walk, I found many poets that intrigued me. One poet that caught my attention was Carol Ann Duffy. She made humorous poems and is the Poet Laureate of Great Britain. Duffy was very independent, which is one of the reasons why I like her is. Another poet that I enjoyed learning about was the famous poet, Edgar Allan Poe. His poems were very dark and depressing because they talked about death and misery. One poem that he wrote was called “The Raven” which we annotated during class. Maya Angelou, who is an extremely popular, African poet, stood out to me as well. She uses many examples of figurative language including metaphors, similes, and personification throughout her poem. I really liked Lewis Carrol because his poems talk about animals such as crocodiles and mice in his poems. The animals are either figurative or literal animals. Thomas Hardy caught my attention because he has the most amazing, curly mustache ever. His poems were also intriguing and used many figurative languages. My poet, Billy Collins, was very humorous in his poems. I enjoyed learning about the modern American poet, Billy Collins. Many of his poems are very humorous and unique from other traditional poems, which tend to focus on death and darkness. While many of Collins’s poems are dark, he still maintains an amusing aspect to serious topics. His poems are full of detail and have countless examples of figurative language which allows the reader a more enjoyable experience. Because Billy Collins is a “modern” poet, his poems are detailed with current issues, creating poems that are more relatable and understandable than “classical” poems or verses from different eras and cultures. http://poemhunter.com/
